 ANAMBRA SECURITY: CP NNANNA URGES PRESIDENTS-GENERAL OF COMMUNITIES TO PRIORITISE SECURITY, STEP UP SUPPORT FOR FIGHT AGAINST CRIMINALITY The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, has called on Presidents-General of communities across the State to place the security and wellbeing of their respective communities at the forefront of their leadership responsibilities. The Commissioner made the call on 4th September 2026 while receiving the Association of Presidents-General of Communities in the State. He noted that the Presidents-General occupy strategic positions in their respective communities and therefore have a crucial role to play in supporting the Police and other security agencies in the fight against criminality. The grandmother of eight is set to graduate from George Mason University with a bachelor's degree, bringing to life a dream she first carried with her when she left Puerto Rico nearly five decades ago. Garcia moved to the Washington, D.C., area in 1978 as a 25-year-old single mother raising three young daughters. Determined to build a better future, she settled in Virginia and worked a series of jobs while pursuing her education. Along the way, she earned a general studies degree from Northern Virginia Community College. Life, however, demanded sacrifices.  Abia State Inaugurates 35-Man Team to Enforce Relocation of Commercial Buses to Umuahia Central Terminal The Abia State Government has launched a 35-man enforcement team to ensure the smooth relocation of all commercial buses into the newly established Umuahia Central Bus Terminal, also known as the Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal. Inaugurating the team in Umuahia on Saturday, the Commissioner for Transport, **Chimezie Ukaegbu**, stressed that the enforcement exercise, which commenced on **June 13, 2026**, is aimed at sanitising transport operations and restoring order, safety, and compliance across motor parks in the state.  The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has advised the Nigerian government to introduce taxes on fuel products and telecommunications services as part of broader efforts to increase public revenue and create fiscal space for development and social spending. The recommendation is contained in the IMF’s 2026 Article IV Consultation report on Nigeria. The Fund noted that additional tax policy measures will likely be required over the medium term, despite the country’s recent tax system overhaul. “Further tax policy changes will likely be needed—such as increasing the VAT rate, extending VAT to fuel products, rationalising tax expenditures... and introducing telecom excises—to complement administrative gains,” the IMF stated.  Labour Party to withdraw suit as INEC restores candidate to Enugu by-election list  The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has restored the name of the Labour Party (LP) candidate to the list of contenders for the Enugu senatorial by-election scheduled for June 20.  The Nenadi Usman-led leadership of the party had, on Monday, sued the commission at the federal high court in Abuja over the alleged “wrongful exclusion” of its candidate from the forthcoming election. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, distributed 1,000 brand-new motorcycles to primary school teachers in Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State.  ZAMFARA STATE POLICE COMMAND RESCUES THREE KIDNAP VICTIMS  The Zamfara State Police Command says its continuous effort to rid the state of crime and criminality have paid off as a team of police operatives attached to the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), rescued three kidnapped victims along Gurusu–Anka Road who were travelling from Bukuyum to Talata Mafara.   A statement by Yazid Abubakar, Zamfara State Police Public Relations Officer says operatives were swiftly mobilised after receiving a distress call      indicating that a large number of armed bandits wielding sophisticated weapons had blocked the Gurusu–Anka Road and kidnapped three persons travelling from Bukuyum to Talata Mafara.
