NAF INTENSIFIES AIRPOWER CAMPAIGN, STRENGTHENS AIR PRESENCE IN SOKOTO TO DENY TERRORISTS FREEDOM OF ACTION The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified its airpower campaign against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities across the North-West, with a strengthened air presence in Sokoto State to support ongoing joint security operations. The initiative reflects the Service’s determination to sustain pressure on hostile elements, enhance aerial surveillance and maintain the capacity for rapid response to emerging threats, while providing effective air support to ground forces operating within the Joint Operations Area. The strengthened air presence is particularly significant in the fight against asymmetric threats, where terrorists and bandits exploit difficult terrain, mobility and concealment to evade ground forces. Today monday,Madagascar's exiled former leader Marc Ravalomanana was detained today after returning to the Indian Ocean Island for the first time since he was deposed in a coup in 2009.Ravalomanana,exiled to South Africa,had tried returning to Madagascar several times since 2009 but was prevented by the authorities who feared his homecoming would bring further instability to the Island,which has a long history of coups.President Henry Rajaonari Mampianina,who took office in January after an election last December,said ''It's for his safety that he was arrested,besides it's not an arrest but rather placement in a supervised area to ensure his safety''.Marc Ravalomanana said ''I'm not coming to bring trouble but to bring peace and work for Madagasca's development''.
