 Meta to end end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages Meta is ending end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages, a feature the company says will no longer be available after May 8, 2026. Unlike WhatsApp, Instagram never offered encryption to all users or as a default; only select users in certain regions could opt in on a per-chat basis. A Meta spokesperson explained that the decision comes due to low adoption. “Very few people were opting in to end-to-end encrypted messaging in DMs, so we’re removing this option from Instagram in the coming months,” the spokesperson said. “Anyone who wants to keep messaging with end-to-end encryption can easily do that on WhatsApp.” Meta’s messaging strategy has shifted multiple times over the years. WhatsApp chats have been encrypted since 2016, and the company began rolling out default encryption for Messenger in 2023. 5 SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBERS,WERE KILLED TODAY IN AJAH BY THE NIGERIAN POLICE.

•Bodies of the suspected robbers and the one caught alive.                   Today wedneday,five suspected armed robbers were killed by the Nigerian police,and another suspected robber was arrested with bullet wounds.A policeman told pressmen that the suspects had engaged policemen from Elemoro Division,Ajah in Ibeju Lekki Local Government Area in a shootout where they were killed. The police source said that the five robbers were killed on the spot and one injured by bullets was arrested..''The police in Elemoro got information that the suspects were operating at Abule Parapo,opposite Awoyaya in Elemoro area of Ajah around 2 a.m.The suspects engaged the police in a shootout as soon as they saw them.Two locally made double barrel shot guns,one cutlass and iron cutter was recovered from them.The gang had been terrorising residents of Ajah,robbing and raping women''.The corpes of the dead robbers and the injured suspects were brought to the Lagos State Police Command headquarters,Ikeja about 12:15 p.m.The operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad {SARS} have taken over the case file from the Divisional Police Officer at Elemoro,SP Sani Limawa for further investigation.
