 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. 5 SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBERS,WERE KILLED TODAY IN AJAH BY THE NIGERIAN POLICE.

•Bodies of the suspected robbers and the one caught alive.                   Today wedneday,five suspected armed robbers were killed by the Nigerian police,and another suspected robber was arrested with bullet wounds.A policeman told pressmen that the suspects had engaged policemen from Elemoro Division,Ajah in Ibeju Lekki Local Government Area in a shootout where they were killed. The police source said that the five robbers were killed on the spot and one injured by bullets was arrested..''The police in Elemoro got information that the suspects were operating at Abule Parapo,opposite Awoyaya in Elemoro area of Ajah around 2 a.m.The suspects engaged the police in a shootout as soon as they saw them.Two locally made double barrel shot guns,one cutlass and iron cutter was recovered from them.The gang had been terrorising residents of Ajah,robbing and raping women''.The corpes of the dead robbers and the injured suspects were brought to the Lagos State Police Command headquarters,Ikeja about 12:15 p.m.The operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad {SARS} have taken over the case file from the Divisional Police Officer at Elemoro,SP Sani Limawa for further investigation.
