“No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity. Our children cannot progress without electricity." "I was born ANC, but today I do not want anyone to tell me about the ANC because I am suffering," added 57-year-old resid...

Kwara United signs one-year shirt sponsorship deal with Chowdeck

Kwara United have signed a one-year shirt sponsorship deal with leading Nigerian food delivery company, Chowdeck, for the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

The partnership was consummated on Saturday at the club’s secretariat in Ilorin, with Chowdeck unveiled as the club’s shirt sponsor.

Under the agreement, Chowdeck’s logo will feature prominently on the front of Kwara United’s jersey throughout the ongoing NPFL campaign, while the partnership will also extend to other areas of the club’s matchday and digital operations.

Speaking at the unveiling, Chowdeck’s Head of Operations, Nasir Umar, who grew up in Ilorin, described the partnership as an honour and an opportunity to reconnect with the state through his company.

“I grew up here in Ilorin and it is an honour for me to come back to the state through my company to sponsor Kwara United for the 2026/27 season.

“We definitely look forward to furthering our relationship with the team and wish the team all the best.

“We are a digital company and part of what we do is to try to digitalise the space as much as we can. Outside of sponsoring the jerseys, we are also providing the opportunity for people to buy match tickets online and purchase the club jersey on our app.”

Kwara United Chairman, Kumbi Titiloye, welcomed Chowdeck into the club’s family, stressing that the partnership would go beyond shirt sponsorship.

“We are partnering with Chowdeck as our shirt sponsor and partner, and they are also going to get involved in matchday tickets and so many other things that will come around it.

“I must tell you that, due to the symbiotic relationship between Kwara United and the Commission, the chairman was able to introduce Chowdeck to Kwara United.

“We welcome Chowdeck and we hope this relationship will grow from strength to strength.”

Also speaking, Kwara State Football Association Chairman, Idris Abdullahi Thuraya, described sponsorship and partnerships as vital to the growth and sustainability of football.

“FIFA encourages strong sponsorship and partnership because they are key aspects of how football should be run.

“I want to appreciate the Commission Chairman for bringing this to the table. It is a very good one, and I want to encourage him and other stakeholders to continue to bring this kind of partnership so that the game can continue to grow.”

Kwara State Sports Commission Chairman, Coach Bola Mogaji, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting sports development under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

“Under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, we will continue to do whatever we can to continue to support sports development in the state.”

The partnership marks another step in Kwara United’s efforts to strengthen its commercial structure while embracing digital solutions around ticketing, merchandising and matchday engagement ahead of the new NPFL season.
