‘I’ll turn off the mic’ — Remi Tinubu reins in Adeleke’s singing at Ooni’s anniversary First Lady Oluremi Tinubu cautioned Ademola Adeleke, the Osun state governor, for prolonged singing during his remarks at the 10th coronation anniversary celebration of Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife. The moment, captured in a now-viral video, occurred as the governor mounted the podium on Sunday to pay tribute to the monarch and to congratulate the Remi on her newly bestowed chieftaincy title, Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua. Rather than proceed immediately with his formal message, Adeleke, popularly known as the “Dancing Governor” for his spirited public appearances, burst into a short musical chant, drawing laughter from parts of the audience. According to CCTV,entrepreneurs in Somali capital of Mogadishu have been ordered to remove English language signboards in a bid to protect the Somali language.Spokesperson for the Mayor Abdifirah Omar Halane said yesterday thursday that ''Residents are required to removed signs written in English from their businesses in the capital.The order is aimed at promoting the Somali language''.Those refusing to obey can be fined or jailed,said Ahmed Abdulle Afrah,district commissioner of Wadajir,one of the 17 districts in the capital.The statement further said ''Somalia belongs to Somalis,and we have to protect our culture and language...Our language has been dominated by the English language''.Though people are criticizing the new law saying that ''We can show love for our country by being honest,by paying taxes in time.But by obeying bad laws like bans on other languages,you would look like a racist''.More photos below.
