 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. IGUE FESTIVAL: OBASEKI SALUTES OBA OF BENIN+PRAYS FOR STRONGER BOND,BETTERS DAYS.{PHOTO}

     The Governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has congratulated the Omo N’ Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin on the celebration of the 2017 Igue Festival in Benin City, which kicked off on Tuesday.
The governor prayed for stronger bond among all Edo people, their friends and  neigbours as well as better days for the Benin kingdom and Nigeria.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Edo State, I congratulate the Omo N’ Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin, and all Benin people as well as our friends on the annual Igue Festival celebration,” Obaseki said.
He added “It is my prayer that the new year brings forth good tidings and a stronger bond between the exalted throne and the Government of Edo State to consolidate on our achievements across all sectors of the state.”
He commended everyone participating in the 2017 Igue Festival, both in Benin and other parts of the world for sustaining the rich cultural heritage bequeathed this generation by our forefathers.
 The governor urged Edo people to use the celebration to forge closer ties with friends and neighbours.
“We wish His Royal Majesty a glorious celebration, excellent health and the divine wisdom to continue to lead us his people to greatness,” he said.
The annual Igue Festival is one of the biggest festivals on Nigeria’s calendar of high profile festivals and is held in high esteem by Edo people all over the world because of its significance.
