“NO INDUSTRIAL ACTION UNDER AMBODE’S ADMINISTRATION” – LAGOS COMMISSIONER DECLARES.{PHOTO}.

Lagos State Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Dr. Akintola Benson Oke has declared that the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode-led administration in Lagos has enjoyed the best industrial relations with the various recognized Unions in the State since its inception three years ago.
The Commissioner, who made the declaration at the 2018 Ministerial Press Briefing in commemoration of the Third Year in Office of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode at Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, Ikeja, said that the feat is the first in the history of the State since creation over 50 years ago.
Benson Oke attributed the relative industrial peace in the State to the priority accorded the welfare of staff in terms of prompt payment of salaries, timely remittances of accrued pensions for serving public officers and State retirees as well as the harmonious relationship that exists between the government and the various unions in the State.
He commended the various Union leaders for maintaining good industrial relations with the State Government, promising that other ongoing discussions between the State Government and representatives of unions would be given due consideration to favour both parties.
Oke disclosed that Governor Ambode, in order to further consolidate his relationship with union leaders, designed an interactive platform for direct interface with the union members on a quarterly basis, saying that 12 of such fora had been held in the past 36 months.
He listed some of the issues that had been successfully resolved through the quarterly interactive sessions to include replacement of promotion examination with structural trainings for eligible public officers; provision of 12 utility vehicles to 12 unions within the Joint Negotiating Council, JNC; international training for the union leaders and allocation of office space for JNC in the Public Service Plaza presently under construction.
The Commissioner also explained that the various training programmes embarked upon by the Ministry were done in a very transparent manner using a computerized and methodological system of choosing participants in order to give equal chance of participation for all staff.
Earlier, the Chairman, House Committee on Establishments, Training and Pensions Public Service, Mr. Adedayo Famakinwa, attested to the huge investment being committed by the present administration to training and retraining of staff.
He expressed the belief that the training programmes already implemented by the State government would translate into improved productivity on the part of employees.
