 Abia Govt Moves to Abolish Traditional Birth Practices Over Health Risks The Abia State Government has vowed to abolish traditional childbirth practices, citing the risks they pose to mothers and newborns. Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu made the declaration during a quarterly meeting of the State’s Taskforce on Primary Health Care, describing the practices as harmful and contributors to maternal and child mortality. He called for collaboration with religious, traditional, and local leaders to support immunization efforts and improve healthcare access under Governor Alex Otti’s administration. Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary of the Abia State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Kalu Ulu Kalu, praised the ongoing construction of 200 health centres statewide, expressing optimism that Abia could win the 2025 National Leadership Award in primary health care.

      A Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH) graduate, Isaac Atamba has been shot dead in a gang related violence in Calabar.
Atamba, a native of Igwo village Obudu LGA in Cross River State was gunned down on Friday August 2, while working at his laundry shop Atimbo, Calabar Municipal.
It has not been established which gang he belonged to and the rival that killed him.More photos below.
