 A Limpopo man who stabbed his girlfriend to death in front of his own mother will spend the next 20 years in prison. The Polokwane High Court sentenced 48 year old Nathaniel Molatelo Mokgehle from Sekonye Village in the Botlokwa policing area for the murder of his girlfriend, 41 year old Mokgadi Julia Mohlaela. The court heard he chased her out of the house and continued stabbing her until she collapsed and died. Mokgehle also received six months for malicious damage to property. The sentence will run at the same time as the 20 year murder sentence. Evidence presented in court showed the victim had previously opened a malicious damage to property case against him. He was still attending court for that case when the murder happened. The attack happened on 08 June 2025 around 16:00 at his mother’s home in Sekonye Village.      The Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako has disclosed his intention to eliminate delays in the issuance of building plan approvals as he officially assumed duties with a tour of Agencies under the purview of the Ministry.
Dr. Salako, who visited the Lagos State Building Control Agency(LASBCA), Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Agency(LASPPA) and Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency(LASURA) in the company of the Special Adviser on Urban Development, Arc. Kabir Ahmed Abdullahi and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Arc. Foluso Dipe said that factors causing delays in the issuance of building plan approvals would be examined thoroughly with a view to easing the process and eliminating the delays.
His words: “We will not hesitate to streamline the process and enhance inter-agency collaboration where necessary to eliminate delays in issuing building plan approvals as bottlenecks create unnecessary backlogs and encourage illegal developments”.
He said that it had become incumbent upon officers of the Ministry to deliver effective and efficient service to the people in the most expedient manner since their services directly impact the wellbeing of the people.
He urged staff of the Ministry to support government initiatives and be true ambassadors of the Lagos State Government in words and deeds, stressing that as professionals involved in regulating the built environment, they played a critical role in the harmonious development of the physical environment of Lagos State.
The Commissioner said that he would leave no stone unturned to actualise the mandate of Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration in the built environment sector.
While charging enforcement officers to monitor the process of building from the 'infant' stage to help developers build right, Salako sought the cooperation of Lagosians to stem incidents of building collapse and save residents the agony of demolition.
Also speaking during the tour, the Special Adviser on Urban Development, Arc. Kabir Ahmed Abdullahi acknowledged efforts of LASURA on slum upgrade and urged the Agency to produce excellent iconic designs for Lagos State.
