The Lagos State Government has expressed eagerness to complete the first phase of the Ilubirin Foreshore Housing Scheme along the Third Mainland Bridge within 24 months, saying construction work is still ongoing at the location.
The disclosure was made by the Honourable Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai at a meeting with representatives of a stakeholder in the project, Messrs. First Investment Property Company (FIPC) while reacting to speculations that the housing scheme had been abandoned.
“The Ilubirin Scheme has not been set aside, we are working on it. We have a solid plan to deliver the first phase of the scheme not later than the third quarter of 2021,” he declared.
Akinderu-Fatai maintained that this administration remains committed to providing homes to residents, elaborating that the project is a public-private collaboration that is being reviewed to actualise the vision of an upscale and captivating residential, commercial and leisure environment befitting of its strategic location along the lagoon.
He revealed the plan of the government to create livable cities and regenerate existing ones to inject new life in the neighbouring communities.
According to him, the process of reappraisal will be accelerated because of the urgent need to close the housing deficit gap and complete all abandoned housing estates in the State to align with global specifications.
“We are here to set new bars in housing development. We intend to do that through setting good examples with our own estates”, Akinderu-Fatai said.
Earlier, Mr. Wale Bamgbelu of Messrs First Investment Property Company (FIPC) said the master plan for the scheme is a replica of world-class housing estates anchored on the “Live, Work and Play” pattern with residential facilities, cinema halls and shopping arcades among other infrastructure of global standard.
The Ilubirin Estate is a housing project initiated in 2014 and constructed on reclaimed land in Ikoyi Island, facing the Lagos Lagoon Waterfront at the base of the Third Mainland Bridge.
The project was designed to deliver 472 units of two and three bedroom blocks of flats, terraces and penthouses in a mixed-use hub that will create a ‘live, work and play’ environment with commercial units and recreational facilities.
