 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. LAGOS BUILDINGS TO UNDERGO INTEGRITY TEST.#PRESS RELEASE.

     The Lagos State Government has disclosed that integrity tests on buildings suspected to be structurally defective will soon commence to safeguard the lives and property of occupants residing within such premises.
Speaking at the site of a distressed and water-soaked, two-storey building on Owoseni Street, Ikate – Surulere, the Acting General Manager, Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory (LSMTL) - Engr. Olalekan Ajani warned developers who construct buildings with inferior quality materials to desist from such unethical practices.
Ajani hinted that LSMTL would identify all distressed buildings, serve the property owners with notices and conduct tests to ascertain the structural integrity of such houses.
He advised occupants of such buildings to vacate their premises due to the effect of the persistent rainfall on its structural members and implored developers to insist on quality and standard materials for housing construction.
The Acting General Manager also encouraged property owners to carry out necessary quality assurance tests to ascertain the integrity of all materials ranging from water used in mixing cement and concrete, iron rods, fine aggregate, coarse aggregate, cement, wood, etc.He urged Lagosians to be their brother's keeper and not wait for disaster to happen before calling on relevant agencies of government to alert them on any impending danger.
