More than 100,000 children have been displaced by the latest escalation in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, UNICEF said on Sunday, warning the numbers are expected to rise as violence spreads.      The Lagos State Government has cautioned residents to desist from the unauthorised breaking of seals placed on any property by government institutions as a result of infractions, and subsequent enforcement exercises.
The warning was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako saying anyone caught indulging in such an act will face legal sanctions.
Salako explained that placement of seals on buildings that contravened the law is a regulatory procedure taken after necessary notices have been served on the property owner, noting that the removal of seals is an illegal activity that will no longer be tolerated by the government.
“Artisans, Bricklayers, Electricians, Carpenters among others are advised in their own interest to reject jobs within such marked premises or face the full wrath of the law” he warned.
The Commissioner enjoined members of the public to cooperate with the State Government by reporting cases where such violations are observed through the following numbers: 07000527222, 07005050404.
