 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.     The attention of the Lagos State Safety Commission has been drawn to the #NativeLand19 concert which was held at the Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island, Lagos recently and the unpleasant incidents that followed the concert.
Firstly, the Commission expresses sympathy with everyone who was injured, lost properties and had their enjoyment disrupted at the NativeLand19 concert. The Commission has commenced a full investigation will reach out to all parties involved in due course.
Secondly, the Commission wishes to notify the public that organizers of the event did not notify the Commission and did not put in place adequate safety measures nor obtain Safety Compliance Certificate from the Commission.
The Commission if using this medium to reiterate zero tolerance for event organizers, show promoters and venue owners who disregard health and safety measures at the detriment of the interest of the general public.
In line with the Lagos State Safety Commission Act, all events must be brought to the attention of the Commission before the date of the event and events without Safety Compliance Certificates will be shut down.
Lagosians are implored to report all safety infractions noticed to the Lagos State Safety Commission at Block 18b 2nd & 3rd Floor Secretariat, Alausa.
