 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.     At FRSC Ogun State, we  have received specific directives from the FRSC National Headquarters to support the Ogun  State Government and deploy our resources , including 500 patrol operatives;  25 patrol vans ; 04 patrol motorbikes ; 05 Advanced Life Support Ambulances and a heavy duty  recovery vehicle across Ogun State.

According to the Sector Commamder FRSC Ogun State Command , Corps Commander, Clement Oladele,   the FRSC Ogun State Command have therefore prepared an Operational Order that would guide our participation across Ogun State, for maintaining high visibility of all our Commands thought out the entire State , including those  enroute to the international border with Benin Republic and the boundaries with Lagos ;Ondo and Oyo States.

In addition we have prepared and deployed the FRSC Emergency Road Side Clinics especially  those at Sagamu on the Lagos - Ibadan Expressway and at Itori on the  Abeokuta - Lagos Expressway , including the FRSC  medical personnel comprising medical doctors ; specislised nurses and other trauma experts, to ensure full implementation of the Presidential Directive on COVID - 19 , as it affects Ogun State.

All FRSC's  Advanced Life - Support  Ambulances located around crash prone areas along the Lagos - Ibadan Expressway at Mowe; Sagamu  Ogere ; Ogunmakin and along the Abeokuta - Lagos Expressway at Itori and Ota, together with  the one positioned at Siun junction  along the Abeokuta - Sagamu Highway have all been prepared and deployed with those on the Sagamu - Ijebu Ode - Benin Expressway for this special operations.
The FRSC Ogun State has synergized with sister security; traffic and emergency agencies to ensure implementation of the Presidential Directive and extant instructions from the Ogun State Government, as they relate to COVID - 19.

The FRSC enjoins  members of the public to cooperate with FRSC Officers and Marshals and with all other relevant security and emergency agencies during this period. 

Motorists  categorised as on essential duties  and who are granted Presidential exemption should be ready to present  evidence, to avoid unnecessary delay when stopped for routine checks on the road.

All FRSC operatives participating in the special operation have been provided with safety and protective gears , especially nose guards and hand gloves . Motorists being attended to during this special operations are therefore enjoined to respect the Word Health Organization's ''social distancing rule'' when being attended to by the FRSC Officers and Marshals.
The FRSC has also availed members of the public in emergencies or those making relevant reports to the authorities , that they may use the FRSC toll - free number 122 and the National Traffic Radio , for such information and reports which  would be quickly  disseminated to appropriate authorities. 

All FRSC operatives on duty during this special operation have been properly briefed to be polite and exhibit good conducts as they  work harmoniously with sister security agencies during the entire operation.

The Sector Commander has also expressed satisfaction with the compliance level of motorists in Ogun State, since the lock down commenced last Monday 30 March 2020, with all the road  boundaries of Ogun State with contigious States of Lagos , Oyo and Ondo , and the International Border with Benin Republic by Idiroko, Ogun State , were effectively closed to motorists, except those with Presidential waiver to use the States borders like vehicles conveying petroleum products ; agricultural goods and  persons categorised as being on essential duties, especially medical services and the media , who upon proper  identification are allowed passage .


The Sector Commamder also said the FRSC , working with sister security agencies effected lockdown in Ogun State by 1100pm on  Friday 03 April, 2020 , when the Presidential waiver obtained by the Ogun State Governor , Prince Dapo Abiodun lapsed.  

The Sector Commander appealed to motorists to continue to give maximum support to the FRSC and other security agencies enforcing the Presidential Directive, as this is one of the effective Strategies for ensuring  the World Health Organization's social distancing rule  and there by curtail the spread of the COVID - 19 virus .

According to the Sector Commamder, the FRSC Ogun State Command deployed an initial 500 personnel with another 300 personnel on standby, but have been trained and  prepared to join the operation ,if need be.  

We also have a third layer of another 50 FRSC Officers, who are staff of the FRSC Driver's License Centers across Ogun State, that their Driver's License Centers were temporarily closed due to COVID 19. These category of personnel have been prepared and are ready ,at short notice,  to join force in enforcing the Presidential Lock Down Order.

The FRSC Ogun State does not envisage inadequate personnel to enforce the Presidential Directive, even if the situation deteriorates , which we do not pray for.
The FRSC is fully prepared and will continue to enforce the Presidential Directive.
