 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. SARS OPERATIVES BURST A ROBBERY SYNDICATE TERRORIZING ONITSHA AND ENVIRONS.{PHOTO}.#PRESS RELEASE.


     On the 21/5/2020 at about 6:30pm following intelligence report,Police operatives attached to the Command special Anti Robbery Squad(SARS) in collaboration with the local vigilante group arrested at Upper Iweka in Onitsha, Anambra State one Kosisochukwu Onyemerem 'm' aged 20 years and Emeka kalu 'm' aged 19 years respectively.
Suspects were caught red handed while robbing innocent passersby of their belongings at upper iweka. On sighting the police operatives suspects engaged them in a shoot out and took to their heels when overpowered but they were pursued and arrested with the assistance of the local vigilante group in the area.
Meanwhile,Exhibits recovered in their possessions includes two locally made revolver pistols,five .9mm live ammunition,three assorted phones allegedly snatched from the victims of the robbery operation, one driver's licence bearing the name Fidelis Offor, and cash sum of One hundred and twenty three thousand naira( #123, 000) of different denomination.Case is under investigation after which suspects would be charged to Court for prosecution.
Consequently,the Commissioner of Police *CP John B.Abang,fdc* reassures Ndi Anambra that the Command under his watch will continue to make Anambra State unbearable to the criminal elements until they repent or relocate from the State.
