 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. NAPTIP WITH SUPPORT FROM UNODC LAUNCH THE JUDICIAL RESEARCH CENTER IN ABUJA.{PHOTOS}.#PRESS RELEASE.

 

· Earlier today the Judicial Research Center was launched by the National Agency for The Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, a project which was supported by The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and funded by The United States Department of States/International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Bureau (INL).
· The main objective of Judicial Resource Center is to add impetus to legal research and to enable NAPTIP Prosecutors and potential researchers to compare and to sight cases relative to present day matters.
· The Director General in Her opening remarks, welcomed everyone and also thanked the Sponsors of the project. She went to say , “it is apparent that there is an upsurge in the number of cases of human trafficking in Courts all over the Federation which brings with it the attendant issues of Human Trafficking and Smuggling of Migrants. It is my belief that this Judicial Resource Center would define our roles as actors in the fight against trafficking in Persons and further deepen the already existing partnership between the Agencies, UNODC and INL to fulfill our mandates.”

· The UNODC Representative to Nigeria Mr. Oliver Stolpe in his speech said he was excited to always work with NAPTIP and the fight against TIP is a very important one. He concluded by saying "Continuous training and capacity building are essential for NAPTIP’s Officials to be equipped with the necessary tools and knowledge to investigate and prosecute trafficking in persons cases.".More photos below.
