Some teachers who were instrumental to excellent performance of students of Education District I during the last West African Examinations Council, WAEC, have been recognised by the Tutor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Education District, Barrister (Mrs.) Margaret Titilayo Solarin.
Mrs. Solarin said the recognition was well deserved, adding that the teachers, against all odds and restrictions on the sector as a result of COVID-19 pandemic invested so much time and efforts in ensuring that the students performed excellently well during the external examinations.
The TG/PS disclosed that the teachers were commended to encourage their colleagues to go the extra miles in imparting knowledge to the students.
In her words: "We are using the opportunity of this event to encourage those being recognised to continue to be on the path of excellence, while we are also using it to challenge those who are not recognised this year to strive and perform better in the coming years”.
"I believe that this maiden edition of rewarding excellence will serve as a booster to the recipients and a challenge for other teachers to be recognised in subsequent editions", Solarin reiterated.
She identified open recognition and acknowledgement of sterling performance as one of the ways of boosting teachers as well as students' morale in forging ahead and recording consistent success, stressing that Education District I has institutionalised a reward system for its staff and students.
The Chairman of All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools, ANCOPSS, Alimosho zone, Mr. Yemi Adeolu, appreciated all the teachers and charged them to continue to make the zone proud.
Speaking after the recognition, Mr. Lukman Savage, a Chemistry Teacher at Dairy Farm Secondary school, who spoke on behalf of others, applauded the Lagos State government and the leadership of Education District I for celebrating excellence, alluding that the gesture will serve as a catalyst to bring out the best in them subsequently.
The 46 recipients were recognised for their efforts after their students achieved 100% success in the 2020 WASSCE.
