 Police Call Off Senator Natasha's Homecoming Rally Over Security Concerns The Kogi State Police Command has urged organizers to cancel a planned rally in honor of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, citing intelligence reports that suggest the event poses a security threat to the state. The rally, scheduled to take place in Okene on Tuesday, was meant to celebrate the embattled lawmaker's homecoming. According to Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya, hoodlums plan to hijack the event and cause a disturbance of peace in the state. The police command emphasized that they cannot afford to jeopardize the existing peace in the state and warned that they will apply the full force of the law on anyone who causes a breakdown of law and order. Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, says he will run for the post of Nigeria’s President in 2023 if his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, zones its ticket to the Southern region of the country.

Obi, the running mate of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 presidential election, made this known in a terse tweet on Tuesday.

He wrote, “Yes, I will step into the field to contest for the opportunity to serve this great country as President if my party, the @OfficialPDPNig, zones the ticket to the south. But if it is thrown open, Nigerians will also hear from me.”

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
