First introduced as a pilot scheme in 2025, the policy targets applicants seeking B1 and B2 visas, which are designated for business and tourism. According to the U.S. Department of State, the initiative is designed to bolster compliance with local immigration laws and drastically reduce visa overstay rates. The secret service’s lawyer explained that “clothes with lion’s head offend the standard operating procedures” of the SSS.

“My Lord, clothes that were brought for the defendant had lion’s head embroiled on them, and the defendant (Mr Kanu) can’t wear clothes with a lion’s head,” he said.

In response, Kanu said, “I want to wear the clothes of my people, “Isi Agu.”
