 Panic as Oyo demolishes shop in popular Ibadan market Panic gripped residents and traders of the popular Ojoo market in the Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State as the government demolished scores of shops and kiosks in the area, on Thursday. The PUNCH gathered that the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development had served the traders quit notice a long time ago but they refused to move out of the market. The Chairman of the market,  Muhdeen Ganiyu, fondly called Elewedu, however, told our correspondent that the quit notice was too short but the executive members of all the affected markers would meet after the demolition exercise. “The quit notice was too short. All executive members of all the affected markers will soon meet. So, I cannot say anything for now,” he stated. Governor Soludo Re-Constitutes Anambra State Power Committee



Anambra State Government has re-constituted the state power committee.

Governor Chukwuma Soludo during the event at Government House, Awka, charged the members of the committee to be responsive to the task ahead in ensuring that the urban areas in the state meet up to 24 hour power supply.

The committee has Engineer Chike Okonkwo as Chairman and Nwabufo Nwankwo as Secretary. 

Members of the Committee are: Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engineer Julius Chukwuemeka, Engineer Geoffrey Nwokoy, Dr. Chukwueloka Umeh, Engineer Vincent Obiorah, Engineer George Chiatula, Nze Akachukwu Nwankpo, Engineer Ugochukwu Ifediora and Barrister Titus Akpudo. 

The committee has its terms of reference as conducting power flow and demand forecast studies to ascertain the adequacy of the current supply in the state, determine the optimal siting of power infrastructure to mitigate the identified inadequacies and support future load growth and liaise with EEDC to recommend short and medium term implementable solutions to archive 24/7 supply among others.

Inaugurating the committee Professor Soludo who spoke through the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu described the committee as an important aspect of the vision of the present administration, asking them to review the work done by previous committee in the past administration with a view for optimum results in solving all bottlenecks in the power sector.

Governor Soludo while congratulating the committee noted that they were carefully selected because of the huge responsibilities the state entrusted them with and expressed the hope that with the terms of reference, Ndi Anambra and investors will in no distant time experience a turn around in the power sector.

Responding, the Chairman of the Committee, Engineer Chike Okonkwo who thanked the governor for the call to serve, summarized their work as to provide 24 hour power supply. 

For the Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engineer Chukwuemeka pointed out that the committee will equally look out for estimated billing and prepaid meters among others to ensure that Anambra State meets with the target of asking Ndi Anambra to come home and invest.
