 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. LASG AIRLIFTS FIRST BATCH OF CHRISTIAN PILGRIMS TO ISRAEL, JORDAN


The Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board (LSCPWB) has commenced the airlift of Christian Pilgrims to the Holy Lands of Israel and Jordan with the charge that they must be good ambassadors of the State and Country. 

Addressing the 140 pilgrims before the airlifting ceremony at Christ The Light Chapel, Alausa, Ikeja, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Mr. Sewedo Oluseyi Whenu, advised the pilgrims to be focused, bond and unite as a team, stressing the importance of unity to the success of the journey.

He enjoined the pilgrims to look forward to an encounter with God through prayers while imploring them to observe the laws of the holy lands, follow instructions of their tour guide and conduct themselves well during the pilgrimage exercise. 

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Matters (Christian), Very Rev. Bukola Adeleke, urged the pilgrims to pray for the peace of the State and Country, especially on the forthcoming elections across the Nation.   

Also speaking, the Board Chairman, LSCPWB, Rt. Rev. Babatunde Akinpelu-Johnson, advised the intending pilgrims to remain focused and not lose concentration with side attractions during the pilgrimage exercise.

He implored all participants to observe all stipulated COVID-19 protocols. 

On her part, the Board Secretary of LSCPWB, Mrs. Yetunde Florence Gbafe, commended the State Government for providing the platform for a seamless journey, informing the pilgrims that the journey will be energy-sapping, thus they should consult medical personnel on the team in respect of any personal health issues.

The Chairman, Lagos State Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Rt. Rev. Stephen Adegbite, offered prayers for a safe journey while urging the pilgrims to be worthy ambassadors. 

In attendance during the airlift were Board members of LSCPWB, the Presiding Chaplain of Chapel of Christ the Light, Venerable Ezekiel Oluwadare, and the Chaplain, Rev. (Dr.) Dele Ajayi among others.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
