 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. India Reiterates Commitment To Partnering Nigeria For Better Life



The High Commission of India in Nigeria has reiterated its commitment to strengthening business and economic relations with Nigeria. 

The High Commissioner of India, Gangadrine Balasubramanian, who made tha promise at the independence celebration of India in Abuja , said, the India /Nigeria relationship started many years back with the establishment of its office in Lagos.

This relationship according to the India High Commissioner, has remained strong, and developed into multifaceted ways almost in all places including human capitial development hence they as a country, are happy with the assistance and cooperation of successive governments in Nigeria.

He said trade and economic relations between the two countries has remained strong with about 35 Indian companies in the country and they are not moving away from the traditional areas of cooperation but diversifying into new areas including information technology, artificial intelligence with scientific development, solar energy among others. 

Balasubramanian, who had earlier read the Indian President's message to the nation, stressed that his country will continue to cooperate with Nigeria in finding solutions to the insecurity in the country as the business between them has since after COVID-19 lock down, increased on both sides with India importing about ten billion dollars worth of oil from Nigeria. 

The Independence celebration saw India children and their parents thrilling the audience with their various musical and dance displays.
