 Four people have died after a car was swept away at an overflowing bridge in the Makotopong River near Sebayeng. Police recovered the bodies after a blue Renault Kwid carrying five occupants was pulled into the river during heavy water flow on Sunday morning, 8 March 2026. One passenger escaped from the vehicle and alerted police and emergency services. Police say the car was travelling along the Madiga–Makotopong gravel road when it overturned at the flooded bridge and was dragged into the river. The Provincial Search and Rescue team recovered the first body on Sunday. The victim was identified as Lebapa Petrus Mochitele, 27, from Madiga Village. EMS personnel declared him dead at the scene. Search operations resumed on Monday with the SAPS Water Wing Unit, EMS Search and Rescue, the Fire and Rescue Department, and an EMS helicopter. Anambra State Emerges Winner of 2022 South East ANCOPPS Quiz Competition

Anambra has emerged winner of the 2022 South East All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools quiz competition.

The state clinched the top positions in the junior and senior categories with Maryam Ekesi, of Girls Secondary School, Awka emerging winner in the senior category while Miss Njoku Munachi of Queen of the Rosary College, Onitsha emerged as the winner in the junior category.

The competition took place at the All Nigerian Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools conference held in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

Reacting, the President ANCOPSS, Anambra branch, Mr Jovita Arazu gave the victory to Mr Governor, Prof.Chukwuma Soludo adding that it was his passion and commitment to the education of umu-akwukwo Anambra that led to the feat.

The State Debate Coordinator, Mrs Amaka Aniekwe, commended the pupils for doing the state proud while noting that with this feat, the state will represent the southeast region in Bauchi state for the final competition.

The quiz competition is an annual event of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools.
