  NBC bans Eedris Abdulkareem’s protest song ‘Tell Your Papa’ from radio, TV The National Broadcasting Commission has barred Nigerian radio and television stations from airing the trending song “Tell Your Papa” by veteran rapper, Eedris Abdulkareem, citing its “objectionable nature.” In a memo dated April 9, 2025 and issued by the Coordinating Director of Broadcast Monitoring, Susan Obi, the commission declared the track Not To Be Broadcast (NTBB) under Section 3.1.8 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code. This section prohibits content deemed inappropriate, offensive, or in breach of public decency from being aired on Nigerian broadcast platforms. According to the NBC, while the song has gained momentum across social media platforms, its lyrical content fails to meet the standards of responsible broadcasting. Fake Certificates: ICPC to Clampdown on Degree Mills

The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Professor Bolaji Owasanoye, SAN, OFR, has enjoined the National Universities Commission’s (NUC) Committee on Degree Mills to submit reports of unapproved degree awarding institutions to the Commission for enforcement action.

The Chairman made this call when he played host to the NUC Committee on Degree Mills, led by their Chairman Prof. Enefiok Essien, SAN, when the latter paid a courtesy visit to the Commission’s headquarters recently.

Professor Owasanoye explained that given the fact that the country now thrives on superficiality of qualifications, a lot of people forge certificates of accredited institutions to get appointments in public establishment, saying that regrettably nobody was checking the trend.

“There is an epidemic of fake certification on our hands at the moment and if we don’t deal with it, we will never have the kind of human capital that is required to move the public service,” he pointed out.

Speaking against the backdrop of the upsurge of fake certificates in the Nigerian system, the ICPC boss declared that it was crucial for the Committee to submit lists of identified unapproved degree awarding institutions, their locations and contacts of the people involved to the Commission for further investigations and possible closure.

The Chairman further advised NUC to prevail on the ivory towers to digitalize their certificates and records for ease of verification.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
