 Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence. Police later said that after reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage and digital devices, the investigation had concluded that “the evidential threshold had not been met” and no further action would be taken. BENUE: UNEASY CALM OVER ARREST OF PERSONS IN ADO LG



Following the arrest of some persons over murder and sundry crimes in Ado LGA of Benue state, there are protests in which a local government council chairman is alleged to be biased. JOHN SHIAONDO reports that in the LGA at the moment, it is like the peace of the grave yard. 

Controversies have trailed the recent protest in Ado local government area of Benue state by irrate youths who called for the sack of the chairman, James Oche.

The youths, women and even masquerades had besieged the street of Ado in a protest against the chairman of the LGA.

Allegations against the council boss

But while the protest raged, others viewed the incident as politically motivated, and some believed the protest was borne out of genuine concern over the activities of the chairman who was accused of victimising opposition political party members.

While staging the protest, the youths carried placards with inscriptions like ‘James Oche is an Oppressor’, ‘Enough is enough, we need water in Apa, not War’, ‘Justice for Agila youths’, ‘Justice for Hon. Ochonu William Okefie, Comr Patrick Eza and others’, etc.

The protesters alleged that their grievances were against the incessant molestation of innocent citizens over their political views.

The crowd which was joined by masquerades marched through the major streets in the area, chanting solidarity songs.

Leader of the protesters Otse Agu who spoke accused the chairman of using the Benue Volunteer Guards to molest his political opponents.
