Supreme Court Removes Julius Abure as Labour Party Chairman The Supreme Court has nullified the decision of the Court of Appeal in Abuja that recognized Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party. Delivering a unanimous verdict on Friday, a five-member panel of the apex court ruled that the Court of Appeal lacked jurisdiction to declare Abure as chairman, as the matter centered on internal party leadership—a subject courts are not permitted to adjudicate. The court also noted that Abure's tenure had already expired. The appeal, filed by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman and another, was upheld, while a cross-appeal by the Abure-led faction was dismissed for lacking merit. More details to follow.

Drama As Beggars Reject Old Currency In Kaduna

January 25, 2023

On Wednesday, a small amount of drama occurred on the well-known Kano-road in Kaduna.

The drama started when a group of beggars turned down some old 1,000 Naira bills that a kind stranger had given to them.

According to our correspondent who witnessed the drama, a young man was approached by three beggars in wheelchairs as he exited a bus.

Realizing they were asking for donations, the man pulled a N1,000 bill out of his wallet and extended it toward the beggar who was the oldest of the three.

The beggars, in an amusing response, turned their wheelchairs around, looked at themselves, and rejected the young man’s offer by moving away from him.

The young man, who introduced himself as Caleb, said to onlookers, “They (beggars) came to me, asking for alms. They rejected what I had on me despite my offering it to them.

The young man explained that despite his best efforts, he only had the older currency notes and was unable to obtain the newer ones.
