 Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence. Police later said that after reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage and digital devices, the investigation had concluded that “the evidential threshold had not been met” and no further action would be taken. Five Escape Death As Fire Razes Four Bedroom Apartment In Awka


Five people from different families, in the early hours of today escaped being burnt to death as fire razed a four-room apartment at Araba street Awka, Anambra State capital.


The incident, which started around 2 am in the morning, was suspected to have emanated from a spark from electrical connections in one of the rooms in the apartment.


Narrating the incident, an eyewitness and tenant at the Ikechukwu Anakor's compound, Mr. Ahmed Abubakar Idris; from Kogi State, said he started hearing explosion in the early hours of the day while he was still asleep, adding that aside his mobile phone, his certificates, laptop and a sophisticated (DI) machine were destroyed in the incident that defied individual efforts to extinguish it.


Contributing, son of the landlord of the compound, Mr. Agozie Anakor explained that gas cylinders in the room where the incident started helped escalate it, adding that but for individual efforts, the fire would have extended to other buildings around.


They solicited help from public-spirited individuals to help reduce attendant hardships, as properties worth millions of naira were destroyed before help could come.
