 Legendary actor Manoj Kumar dies at 87: ‘Roti Kapada Aur Makaan’ director breathes his last in Mumbai Manoj Kumar, the Bollywood actor and filmmaker, renowned for his patriotic films, passed away at the age of 87 at Mumbai's Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. The cause of his death was identified as cardiogenic shock due to acute myocardial infarction, according to medical reports. The medical reports confirmed that apart from a severe heart attack that took away his life, Manoj had been battling decompensated liver cirrhosis for the past few months, ANI reported. Following deteriorating health condition, he was admitted to the hospital on February 21, 2025. Popularly known as ‘Bharat Kumar,’ Manoj Kumar was an exceptional director and actor who was honoured with National Film Award. Governor El-Rufai Pardons Eleven Prisoners On New Year’s Day

Governor of Kaduna state, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has approved the release of 11 prisoners from the Nigerian Correctional Service in celebration of the new year 2023.

This is an exercise of the powers conferred on him by Section 212 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria(as amended) and on the recommendation of the Advisory Council on the prerogative of mercy.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Mr Muyiwa Adekeye, which detailed that the pardoned convicts include those serving jail sentences of three years or more who have six months or fewer to complete their term, as well as long term prisoners who have served ten years or more of their sentence with good conduct and convicts suffering from ill health likely to terminate in death.

Among those pardoned include Musa John, Yakubu Abdullahi and Habu Usman.

Others that were released include Shamsu Usman, Abdullahi Abdulmumuni, and Mahadi Abdullahi as well as Futune Mabuke, Abdullahi Lawal, Sunday Iliya , Mohammed Anas and Kayode Gabriel Adenji.

In addition, private submissions for clemency were made to the governor for consideration.

Meanwhile, Governor El Rufai thanked the people of the state for the opportunity to serve them, and for their understanding and support over the years.

He also asked them for continued commitment to peace and prosperity, hoping that the hard work done since 2015 to make the state better and improve lives will continue with the next government.

He told the teeming crowd at the remodelled Murtala Mohammed Square that the 2023 countdown will be his last as governor of Kaduna state and seized the opportunity to say goodbye.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
