 Trial begins of Central African ex-president Bozize over war crimes A UN-backed court in the the Central African Republic will on Tuesday begin the trial in absentia of former president Francois Bozize, over crimes against humanity committed between 2009 and 2013. The alleged crimes committed by members of Bozize's security forces include murder, enforced disappearance, torture and rape. Bozize, 79, who seized power in a 2003 coup before being overthrown 10 years later by rebels, has been living in exile in Guinea-Bissau since March 2023. But three of his former senior military officers, Eugene Barret Ngaikosset, Vianney Semndiro and Firmin Junior Danboy, are all in pre-trial detention in the Central African Republic. FG Declares May 1st, Public Holiday

Federal Government has declared Monday 1st of May as Public Holiday to mark this year’s Workers Day Celebration.

Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola congratulated workers across the country on this year’s celebration.

Ogbeni Aregbesola commended workers for their hard work, diligence and sacrifice, noting that their efforts are largely responsible for the greatness of the country and the respect Nigeria now commands in the comity of nations.

According to the Minister, there is dignity in labour, we have to have dedication and commitment to the work you do, because it is vital to nation building.

He urged workers to imbibe the culture of productivity.

The Minister also urged workers to improve their craft in line with the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari’s drive to modernize the means of governance and ensure that every Nigerian receives the greatest benefits from the country.

He lauds the security services for the fight against crime nationwide and exhorts them to keep up the good work and never give up on stopping criminals whenever they rear their heads.

The Minister therefore urges Nigerians to be part of the nation’s security architecture by being vigilant and reporting suspicious individuals and activities to law enforcement agencies nearest to them.

He urges the citizens to make use of the N-Alert Application on Android and iOS.
