 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Nigeria Deploy Troops For Peacekeeping Mission To  Gambia.


Troops deployed to peacekeeping missions have been charged to remain focused, committed and deliver excellent and exemplary leadership to promote the Armed Forces of Nigeria.


Chief of Operations Army Headquarters,Major General Taoreed Lagbaja gave the charge in a message to the pre-deployment graduation ceremony of Nigerian Company 8 ECOWAS mission in the Gambia, held at the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre, Jaji Kaduna State.


Represented by Major General Emmanuel Undiandeye, the Chief of Operations also charged the Troops to desist from any form of untoward incidents that could dent the image of Nigeria, and must at all times, conduct themselves Professionally.


Major General Lagbaja reminded them of the zero tolerance Policy of the Armed Forces and the United Nations on Sexual exploitation and Abuse,Stressing that appropriate Sanctions would be applied against defaulters.


Earlier in his speech, Deputy Commandant of the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre, Brigadier General Sunday Makolo explained that the aim of the Pre-deployment Training was to equip contingent with the requisite skills to function effectively in their deployment to the Gambia.


He pointed out that the ttraining also focused on both Tactical, as well  as Contemporary Cross-Cutting issues like sexual exploitation and Abuse,Conduct and discipline as well as Protection of Civilians amongst others.


Brigadier General Makolo charged the Troops to discharge their duties in line with the Mission Mandate, bearing in mind the Multinational nature of the Mission as well as Cultural and Religious diversities of the Gambia.


A total of One Hundred and Ninety-Seven Troops comprising fourteen officers and one hundred and eighty-three soldiers graduated after undergoing a four week intensive Training.
