 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. May Day Celebration: Niger Govt Tasks Workers On Productivity

Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger state has asked workers to be more efficient and productive in the discharge of their duties for the progress and development of the state 

This is contained in a statement issued to Newsmen in Minna by his Chief Press Secretary Mrs Mary Noel Berje as part of activities marking the 2023 Worker's Day celebration.

Alh Abubakar Sani Bello said though he is leaving office in a couple of days, he is still concerned with the huge wage bill of Niger state government which has remained static as well as the lingering anomalies in the civil service over the years.

He however would want Civil Servants to be sincere with themselves and support the incoming administration in addressing the negative trends that have continued to bring setbacks within the system.

The Governor also commended the state workforce for serving as catalyst in the formulation and implementation of government policies and programmes, as well as for sustaining good governance in the state and advised them to extend such gesture to the incoming administration of Umar Mohammed Bago to succeed

Alh Abubakar Sani Bello outlined some of his administration's modest effort on Civil Servants to include; prompt payment of salaries and wages, implementation of new minimum wage and salary structure for health workers and federal Paramilitary salary structure for state Fire Service, refund of 7.5% pension deduction as well as 15%salary augmentation for workers of the state Tertiary Institutions.

 He further said the state government had employed two hundred and fifty graduates into the state civil service, four hundred health workers and that it has completed the employment of over two thousand primary school teachers among others.

The Governor also used the occasion to thank the organised labour for its support during the recent general elections which contributed immensely to the success of the ruling All Progressive Congress APC in Niger state.
