Alia’s car gift to Benue judiciary in order – Attorney General The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order of Benue State, Hon. Barr. Fidelis Mnyim has said the car gift to the judiciary by Governor Hyacinth Alia is a symbol of support and commitment as promised when he assumed office. Barr Mnyim was reacting to a query posed by Prof. Ernest Ojukwu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, in a tweet on Monday, 7th May 2024, challenging the viability of the autonomy granted to Benue State Judiciary if the State governor was still buying cars for them. MAGIC FM recalls that Governor Alia donated six (SUV) vehicles recently to the judiciary. The Professor had wondered why Governor Alia of Benue State should procure vehicles for the state’s judiciary when the funds allocated to the judiciary could be utilized for that purpose. The Attorney General of the State said that the procurement of vehicles for the judiciary constituted an additional benevolent gesture by the Governor.

Commotion as armed men storm Anambra Assembly, try to whisk away member-elect

Four armed men believed to be operatives of Department of State Services (DSS) on Thursday stormed the Anambra State House of Assembly, Awka, in three vehicles and made an attempt to whisk away the lawmaker-elect for Nnewi North constituency, Mr Onyekachukwu Ike.

Information has it the incident caused panic at the legislative complex headquarters for over an hour.

According to an eyewitness, “There was panic at the Anambra State House of Assembly as four armed men suspected to be operatives of Directorate of Security Services (DSS) tried to whisk away member-elect for Nnewi North constituency, Mr Onyekachukwu Ike.

“The armed men drove into the Assembly complex in three vehicles and grabbed the member-elect after he participated in a valedictory thanksgiving service for the seventh Assembly.

“They bundled the member-elect into their vehicle and were trying to drive out of the Assembly complex when security personnel quickly blocked and locked the exit gate of the chamber.”

Speaking, on the incident, the Acting Clerk of the Assembly, Mrs Esther Aneto, and other senior staff said the suspected DSS operatives did not inform them or even the police personnel before trying to whisk away the lawmaker-elect.

A source said: “One of the suspected DSS operatives explained that they had a court order to arrest the member-elect for Nnewi North constituency.

“It took the intervention of the Speaker, Dr Uche Okafor, and the Deputy Governor, Dr Onyeka Ibezim, who came to represent the governor at the valedictory session of the seventh Assembly, before the member-elect was released.”

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said that the matter has been resolved.

“No cause for alarm, it has been resolved. I think it was DSS that was on that mission, but I think everything has been resolved. I was told that the deputy governor and speaker of the house intervened. So, everything was resolved but I don’t know the circumstances surrounding serving him (Ike) invitation.

“Since that place is an institution; with the intervention of the police there and the deputy governor, everything was resolved,” he added
