 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. PDP Chieftain Drags Omadefu To Court Over Alleged Certificate Forgery

The member representing Keana Constituency at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly (NSHA), Adamu Mohammed Omadefu has been dragged before a Federal High Court sitting in Lafia over alleged forgery of secondary school certificate. 

Mr Omadefu who's serving second term was sued alongside the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as 2nd and 3rd defendants in the suit respectfully. 

The candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) for Keana Constituency in the recently concluded 2023 general elections, Osheka Ogwole instituted the suit on Wednesday June 07.  

Mr. Ogwole, a seasoned Quantity Surveyor and Valuer alleged that the Senior School Certificate of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) submitted by Omadefu for election was forged. 

The PDP Chieftain stated that Omadefu (1st defendant) has no minimum requirement to gain admission into tertiary institution in the country and that he relied on a fake certificate to hold public office. 

In the writ of summons, the Court commanded the defendants to file their defence within 30-days upon service. 

Omadefu, a graduate of Political Science from the Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto (UDUS) had submitted the certificate dated 1992 which only bears 'Jos' with no specific name of centre (school). 

Born in 1976, he was mobilized for the mandatory one-year national youth service in 2002 upon graduation from the university in 2001. 

He attended Keana Central Primary School where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) in 1985.
