 Heavy fighting reported between Sudanese army, rival RSF in southern Sudan Fierce clashes were reported Tuesday between the Sudanese army and its rival paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the strategic city of El-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan state in southern Sudan. A military source told Anadolu that the army inflicted heavy losses on RSF's troops and equipment, forcing them to flee positions. Witnesses said clashes with heavy weapons erupted in the western areas of El-Obeid in the early hours of Tuesday, but calm was later restored to the city. The RSF is yet to comment on the army’s announcement. The city recently endured intensified artillery shelling by RSF militants, resulting in fatalities and casualties. The army announced Thursday it had cleared the last RSF pockets in Khartoum, after regaining control of the capital’s airport, security headquarters and several neighborhoods in the east and south for the first time since April 2023. Court Sends Two Internet Fraudsters to Jail in Benin City

Justice M. Itsueli of Edo State High Court sitting in Benin City, Edo State on Thursday, July 27, 2023, convicted and sentenced Kelvin Ifeanyi Aneke and Leonard Emmanuel Osaretin to prison for fraud.
They were arraigned on separate one count charges of unlawful possession of fraudulent documents by the Benin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
They were arrested based on intelligence received regarding their nefarious activities. During investigations, Aneke, 23, was discovered to have impersonated Calvin Hills, an American national, to defraud unsuspecting victims. On his part, Osaretin 25, is into romance scam as he created a fictitious female Instagram account with the name anaroberts 2221 to defraud unsuspecting victims. 
Upon arraignment, the defendants pleaded guilty to their respective charges, prompting the prosecution counsel, K.Y Bello to ask the court to convict and sentence them accordingly. However, counsel to the defendants pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy as the defendants were first time offenders.
Justice Itsueli convicted and sentenced the duo to three years imprisonment with an option of Two Hundred Thousand Naira fine. In addition, they are to forfeit their phones and balance in their bank accounts, being proceeds of crime, to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
