 OCHA Brigade Arrests 13 people Over Illegal Kaolin Excavation In Ozubulu, Ukpor Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade has arrested 13 suspects in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area, and Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area, over illegal kaolin excavation and activities linked to severe environmental degradation in Anambra State. The arrests followed a targeted enforcement operation at identified excavation sites where indiscriminate removal of soil had been taking place, and the affected locations were immediately sealed to halt further damage and prevent the expansion of erosion-prone areas. Illegal excavation has been identified as a major driver of erosion in Anambra State, weakening soil structure, destroying farmlands, and exposing communities to flooding and gully erosion. Higher Education Reform: Governor Inuwa Inaugurates Visitation Panels


Gombe State Governor,  Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON has inaugurated visitation panels to state's institutions of higher learning to assess their condition and recommend ways for improvement.


Speaking during the inauguration at the Government House, Governor Inuwa said the step was meant to ensure accountability in management of the instructions and improved access to higher education in the state.


He said, "the decision to constitute these panels is borne out of my firm desire to ensure efficient and transparent management of our tertiary institutions, thus fostering accountability and improving access to higher education in Gombe State".


The governor noted that the move became imperative for the institutions to improve and meet the needs of both students and the state for a qualified and competitive manpower in the rapidly-changing economy.


He charged members of the visitation panels to conduct a thorough and impartial assessment of the institutions, assess their degree of compliance with existing regulations, look into staff welfare and financial discipline. 


While calling on the management of the institutions to give the panels necessary support and cooperation, the governor encouraged members and leadership of the panels on transparency, integrity and fairness in the course of their assignment.


The institutions to be visited are Gombe State University, Gombe; Gombe State Polytechnic, Bajoga; Gombe State College of Education, Billiri; Gombe State College of Education and Legal Studies, Nafada and Gombe State College of Health Science and Technology Kaltungo.


The panels are expected to complete their assignment and report in two months for further actions.


In a vote of thanks on behalf of members and leaderships of the panels, Barrister Achana Gayus appreciated Governor Inuwa Yahaya for finding them worthy to serve. 


He assured the governor of their unwavering commitments to diligently discharge their duties.


Earlier,  the Secretary to the State Government,  Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi said members of the panels,  who are people of proven integrity and academic standing,  were carefully chosen in view of their respective backgrounds and capacity to deliver.
