 Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence. Police later said that after reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage and digital devices, the investigation had concluded that “the evidential threshold had not been met” and no further action would be taken. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, fnim, CON, warmly welcomed and received members of the Benue State Traditional Rulers’ Council in a special audience. The delegation was led by the highly esteemed His Royal Majesty, James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse, CFR, Tor Tiv, and His Royal Majesty, John Elaigwu Odogbo, Och’Idoma.

During the audience, Senator Akume engaged in fruitful discussions with the revered traditional rulers, exchanging ideas on matters of mutual interest, including the development and progress of Benue State. The meeting provided an opportunity for the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to listen to the concerns and aspirations of the traditional leaders and to foster a collaborative approach to addressing the challenges faced by the state.

As the audience concluded, Senator George Akume expressed his gratitude to His Royal Majesty, James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse, and His Royal Majesty, John Elaigwu Odogbo, for their visit and reiterated the government’s dedication to working hand-in-hand with the traditional rulers for the betterment of Benue State.

The meeting served as a testament to the spirit of cooperation and partnership between the government and the traditional council, affirming their joint resolve to build a prosperous and harmonious future for the people of Benue State.
