 CURBING OPEN DEFECATION: LASG, WATERAID, PRIVATE SECTOR COLLABORATE TO BUILD 350 PUBLIC TOILETS IN LAGOS  The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with WaterAid Plan and private operators, is set to build 350 more public toilets across the state to curb widespread open defecation and maintain hygiene and sanitation.  This is just as the State WaterAid team lead gave a projection that by 2028, the organisation will reach 10 million residents directly and another 17 million indirectly through interventions with basic Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) access. Speaking at a roundtable over the weekend, the Special Adviser on Environment, Engr. Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu said work has started on some of the toilets including identifying the locations for them. BOAT MISHAP CLAIMS 12 LIVES IN NIGER


Boat mishap from two seperate accidents in two Local Government Areas of Niger state has claimed twelve lives.

Acting Director General Niger State Emergency Management Agency NSEMA Alhaji Salihu Garba announced this in an interview with Newsmen in Minna the state capital.

Alh Salihu Garba explained that the incident which occured recently in two Local Government Areas of Borgu and Shiroro also left some other people injured.

Accoding to him ten people have died from the two incidences of boat mishap at Wulakani community in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger state while another two lost their lives from the boat mishap at Gusoro, Shiroro Local Government Area.

He attributed causes of the accidents to strong wind, under water storm, overloading and lack of adherence to safety rules as well as non application of life jackets by some drivers.

Alh Salihu Garba further explained that the Niger State Emergency Management Agency NSEMA is not resting on its oars in educating and enlightening those engaged on water transport on safety measures to overcome problems associated with boat mishap and other challenges for maximum benefits.
