 Drones hit east Congo's biggest city, killing French aid worker, rebels and UN say Drone strikes hit Goma in east Congo ​on Wednesday, killing at least three people including a French aid worker, the ‌first such attack in the city since AFC/M23 rebels seized it last year, according to the group and the U.N. The AFC/M23 blamed the attack on the Congolese army, saying in a post on X that Kinshasa ​had launched drones against a densely populated urban area in the lakeside city. A senior official for U.N. children's agency UNICEF told Reuters ​that one of its employees, a French national, was killed. French President Emmanuel Macron and Hadja Lahbib, ​European Commissioner for equality, preparedness and crisis management, condemned the attack in posts on X, calling for respect for international humanitarian law and saying aid workers must never be targeted. Three Suspects Arrested During Raid

The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) has enforced the closure of the Agbado Oke-Odo market due to identified environmental infractions like street trading, hawking, indiscriminate dumping of refuse and lack of general hygiene.

Speaking on the closure today at the Command Headquarters, Bolade-Oshodi. Corps Marshal of the Agency, CP Gbemisola Akinpelu (retd) said the operation was based on the numerous petitions and complaints from Lagos residents about the deplorable level of filth, environmental degradation at the Agbado Oke-Odo market area and our
intelligence team investigated these claims which turned out to be true, resulting in the closure of the market till further notice and arrests of suspects for obstruction.

Akinpelu revealed that three suspects, namely Taiwo Abeeb, M, 53; Ismaila Adeniji, M, 35 and Akeem Kelani, M, 40, were arrested for obstructing and attacking operatives on lawful duty with dangerous weapons and ammunition which resulted in a deep wound on a KAI operative. 
Maintaining that the suspects will be charged to court for onward prosecution, the retired Commissioner of Police emphasised the need for markets to embrace a high level of hygiene through appropriate dumping of refuse via approved PSP operators, adding that the setbacks, lay-bys of external market premises must not accommodate street traders and hawkers.

She affirmed that street trading remains banned in the State as there will be no hiding place for street traders and hawkers as part of a renewed drive to enforce environmental laws.
