OVER 25 MILLION PHONES STOLEN IN ONE YEAR- FG. (PHOTO).

 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. INEC Fixes Nov 18th For Conduct Of LG Elections In Taraba


Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission has fixed the  eighteenth of November this year for the conduct of the Local Government elections.


The Executive chairman of TSIEIC Dr Philip Danladi Duwe announced this during an interactive session with media managers and newsmen in the state held at the commission's office in Jalingo. 


Dr Philip Danladi Duwe said the Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission was making all necessary arrangements to conduct credible election that would be acceptable to all.


He pointed out that the commission was working tirelessly to ensure that communities displaced by conflict or flood disaster were not disenfranchised as consultations were ongoing on modalities to be adopted to enable eligible voters from such communities participate in the election. 


While commenting on the tenure of    local government officials, TSIEC Executive Chairman said all elected officials would serve for three years.


 Dr Philip Danladi further solicited for the support of the media in the state while promising to ensure transparency at all levels of the election.


At the moment there are three thousand six hundered and fifty polling units in one hundred and sixty eight wards across the sixteen local government areas of Taraba where elections are expected to be conducted during the Taraba State 2023 Local Government elections.
