 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. LT GEN LAGBAJA COMMISSIONS NEWLY REMODELED 71 SUPPLY AND TRANSPORT BRIGADE TRAINING WING IN KADUNA.


The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja has commissioned newly remodeled 71 Supply and Transport Training Wing at Ribadu Cantonment, Kaduna. The Training Wing, which consists of a lecture hall, drivers training class, offices, catering demonstration hall refectory and students' lavatories was reconstructed and remodeled for the enhancement of training of students of the school.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the COAS expressed satisfaction with the execution of the project and commended the initiative and commitment of the project executor Colonel Wasiu Bakare, who is now redeployed as Commander 70 Supply and Transport Command. Gen Lagbaja expressed optimism that the training facility will deliver quality training to trainees. He urged the Commander, staff and trainees to ensure adequate maintenance of the facility.

The COAS further affirmed that the commissioning of the remodeled Training Wing of 71 Supply and Transport Brigade is in consonance with his Command Philosophy to "Transform the Nigerian Army into a well trained, equipped and highly motivated force towards achieving its constitutional responsibilities within a joint environment". He commended Col Bakare for showing exemplary leadership, commitment and prudence in resource management while carrying out the project. He directed all General Officers Commanding (GOC) to provide transport assets to Supply and Transport Brigades Training Wings in their Divisions, for optimal performance.

In his remarks, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division, Maj Gen Valentine Okoro expressed gratitude to the COAS for enhancing training in the NA in line with his Command Philosophy. He added that 71 ST Brigade is keeping pace with ongoing evolutionary training in the Nigerian Army. Gen Okoro assured the COAS that the facility will be put to good use by training personnel that will deploy acquired skills to deliver quality essential services in support of ongoing operations in the Division' areas of responsibility.
 
The project executor Col Wasiu Bakare thanked the COAS for providing a conducive and stimulating learning environment for 71 ST Brigade.

Highpoint of the event was cutting of the inauguration ribbon and a tour of the facility by the COAS and Principal Staff Officers from the Army Headquarters.
