 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Power Supply Restored To Sokoto, Kebbi Ongoing - TCN

               
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says, it has restored bulk power supply to Sokoto State, while engineers are diligently working to extend this restoration to Kebbi State and other areas affected by the unfortunate Birnin Kebbi Substation fire incident that occurred last Thursday. 

In a statement by Ndidi Mbah, 
General Manager, Public Affairs of the company and made available to Radio Nigeria in Birnin Kebbi said, power supply to Sokoto State was restored through the Talata Mafara Substation.

The statement also said that, their engineering team, along with the Managing Director/CEO and the Executive Director, Transmission Service Provider (TSP), are on-site, putting in every effort to reconnect Kebbi State and its environs to the grid through another substation.

Its stated that, engineers were actively working on transferring load to the 150MVA and 60MVA power transformers in the substation, which were fortunately unaffected by the fire incident, adding that, cables are being rearranged, and reinforcement teams from other TCN regions have equally arrived at the substation with the necessary materials to expedite repair work.

The statement "recalled that, the commitment of our MD/CEO, Engineer Sule Abdulaziz, who expressed his deep concern about the unfortunate incident at the Birnin Kebbi Substation, pledged to ensure the restoration of bulk power supply to Sokoto State through the Talata Mafara substation and to collaborate with the engineers to temporarily back-feed Kebbi State while connecting the 150MVA power transformer as a permanent solution to bulk power supply in the area".

It however said TCN greatly appreciates the patience and understanding of the government and people of Sokoto and Kebbi States and environs as we are fully committed to expediting work at the substation to ensure stable and reliable bulk electricity supply to all the affected areas.
