 TROOPS ARREST SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER, RECOVER AK-47 RIFLE ALONG BENIN–SAPELE ROAD Troops of 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Operation WABAIZIGAN, have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during a targeted operation along the Benin–Sapele Road in Ikpoba-Okha LGA of Edo State. The suspect, identified as Olamide Oyeniyi, was arrested on 12 September 2026 at Obaretin Community by troops conducting operations to disrupt criminal activities and safeguard major transportation routes within the area. Items recovered from the suspect include one AK-47 rifle, one magazine and eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition. Other items recovered are one Tecno mobile phone, two bags, one torchlight, one music box and assorted charms. Unidentified transformer cable thief electrocuted in Niger

An unidentified man has been electrocuted while attempting to steal transformer cables in the early hours of Friday on the premises of the Niger State Printing Press in Minna, Niger State.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the corpse of the man was found by some staff of the printing press hanging on the transformer.

The head, Legal Unit of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, Aminu Ubandoma, confirmed the incident to newsmen.

He said the company had been receiving several reports of transformers being vandalised.

Ubandoma disclosed that the company was working with security agencies, especially the police, to ensure that the rate of transformer vandalism was reduced to the barest minimum.

Also confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Niger Police Command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, said the incident occurred around the old secretariat area, on the premises of the printing press.

Abiodun said the body had been deposited at Mina General Hospital.

He revealed that effort was ongoing to locate the relative of the deceased and that the matter was under investigation in collaboration with the AEDC.
