 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  Zamfara Govt Takes Measures To Rescue Kidnapped University Students


Zamfara State Government is taking proactive measures to ensure that, the kidnapped Students of the Federal University Gusau are rescued without any harm.


This was disclosed by the state Acting Governor Malam Mani Mummuni when he visited the University on assessment tour. 


He said that upon hearing the news about the unfortunate incident, the government promptly took action to determine the best way to safely rescue the abducted students.


According to him, the government will also take adequate measures of averting the reoccurrence of similar incidence.


Malam Mani assured the management of the University community, parents, and general public that, the victims would be rescued without any harm and called on them to continue abiding by the law.


Earlier, the Zamfara State Commissioner of Police Muhammad Dalijan said security agencies have surrounded the perpetrators together with their victims both on air and land with a view to rescue them without any injury.


He denounced the allegation that the University management had alerted the security agencies about the attack before it occurred.


In a remark, the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration of the University, Professor Ahmad Galadima expressed appreciation to the state government and security agencies for their prompt response.
