 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  WHO Supports Borno To Vaccinate Over 2M Against Polio


Borno State Government has commenced a 10-day vaccination campaign on Franctional doses of poliovirus vaccine (fIPV) and novel poliomyelitis vaccine (nOPV) across the twenty seven local government areas in the state.


State Commissioner for Health and Human services, Professor Baba Malam Gana said the vaccine type-2 was targeting children from 0-59 months.


Represented by the Director Disease Control and Immunization, Dr Aliyu Shettima said the vaccination team would be situated in fixed and strategic locations including schools, markets, orphanage homes, motor parks, and other public gatherings. 


According to him, the vaccination campaign is targeting more than 2 million children across the state, including those situated in hard-to-reach areas. 


"traditional and religious leaders present here will play a vital role in achieving the overall objective of this campaign. And I also want to appreciate partners for their continual support" Professor Baba Malam said.


Borno state Acting Coordinator World Health Organization WHO, Dr Moisule Hussaini Ganga said WHO will continue to support the state government to immunize eligible children including those in hard-to-reach locations. 


"This campaign has the capacity to eliminate any potential virus including the wild polio virus, and we are optimistic that we will achieve more than 100%" Dr. Ganga remarked. 


Dr Moisule expressed committed of the Organization to key into the state government objective in ensuring access to health services is provided.


The flag-off ceremony was attended by representatives of UNICEF, Rotary, AFENET, and others.
