 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Taraba: We will arrange for Bandits to meet God soon- Brig. Gen. Etim

The 6 Brigade Commander of the Nigerian Army Jalingo, Taraba State, Brigadier General FS Etim says the Brigade is determined to eliminate bandits and all those who do not live a good life in the state.

Etim made the pronouncement in an address at the closing ceremony of the 2023 6 Brigade Inter Battalion Competition held at the Brigade's Headquarters in Jalingo.

He said the job of the army is to arrange for the bandits and other criminals in the state to go and meet God as quickly as possible.

He commended his soldiers for the role they have been playing in ensuring the security and safety of the indigenes of the State.

According to him, things would have been worse if not for the efforts of the soldiers, who pledged to keep improving until the last indigene of the state was secured.

Brigadier General FS Etim reminded the soldiers to know that whenever they are sent out, they are representing their unit as well as the Nigerian Army.

He says " Above all, I will repeat what I always say, we are members of the Nigerian Army and Army for Nigerians. Our job is to secure Nigeria and every inch of its territory, and that we shall continue to do," Etim added.

The Brigade Commander further explained"I cannot finish this speech without saying thank you to our indefatigable COAS, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, a man inbuilt with immense leadership qualities, and a man who in the welfare of his troops is cardinal to his command philosophy.

"We want to thank him for providing us with all the resources we need and to assure him and the highest authorities that we in the 6 Brigade will continue to do him proud," says Etim.

Brigadier General FS Etim, however, appreciated all the invited quest for honoring the invitation, especially their colleagues, the retired soldiers, and the Association of Ex-Soldiers Pikin.

He assured the members of the Nigerian Legion in the state of the Brigade's resolve to continue to carry them along and urged them to always remind the Brigade where they are not getting it right in a bid to get it better.

Lieutenant Colonel A. Muhammed who presented the results, told the Brigade Commander that during the assessment of soldiers of different units at the quarter guard, some mistakes were recorded for correction.

He said the 6 Brigade scored the highest points and emerged as the overall winner, and commended the Brigade Commander for his good leadership style.

In an interview, the Jalingo LGA Chairman of the Nigerian Legion who represented the State Chairman at the occasion, John Bambur commended the Brigade Commander for organizing the competition and described it as lovely.

As the Brigade Commander promised to carry them along, Bambur also assured him of their resolve to continue to cooperate with him to succeed in securing the state.

"We also want the Brigade Commander to send our congratulatory message to the State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, he is one of our soldiers Pikin, and at the same time, he is one of our retired soldiers. So, therefore, we are praying for him for God to keep him alive and let him give a good example to the civilians in the state so that the civilians will know that the military can rule very well even when they are no more in uniform. I am happy for the medal I received," Bambur added.

Another recipient of a medal who is the bandmaster of the 6 Brigade NA Jalingo, Joel Yola from the Yola Music said it was encouraging and interesting working with the military and appreciated the Brigade Commander for the gesture.

The participants were drawn from various units under the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army including the 20 model Battalion, 93 Battalion,114 Battalion (rear), and the 6 Brigade Garrison.
