 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. 7,312 GRADUANDS OF FUT MINNA TO BE CONFERRED WITH FIRST DEGREES.


A total of seven thousand three hundred and twelve graduands of the Federal University of Technology Minna Niger state are to be conferred with first degrees during the combined convocation ceremonies of the institution schedule for next week.

Of the number one hundred and eighty seven of them are to be conferred with first class honours for the twenty twenty, twenty twenty one and twenty twenty two, twenty twenty three academic sessions.

Vice Chancellor of the University Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta stated this while addressing Newsmen at the Senate chamber of the main campus Gidan Kwano.

Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta explained that one thousand and ninety nine will be conferred with second class upper division one thousand four hundred and ninety four second class lower division seven hundred and sixteen third class honour with twenty pass degree for the twenty twenty two twenty twenty three academic session.

According to him some the activities lined up include the commissioning of four projects to include the construction and furnishing of African Centre of Excellence for mycotoxin and food safety building to be commissioned by the Acting Executive Secretary National Universities Commission Mr Chris Maiyaki while Niger state Governor Mohammed Umar Bago will commission the construction and remodification of FUT Minna University main entrance gate.

The Executive Secretary TETFund Arc Sonny Echono will commission the construction of and furnishing of thirty eight number students hostel at main campus and construction of five hundred meters road network accessing School of Physical Sciences and Postgraduate School which will be followed by the convocation lecture.

Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta however commended TETFund for it's numerous intervention to the university saying that without TETFund intervention in tertiary institutions across Nigeria the development of education would have been a mirage.

On Resarch Innovation and Development, the Vice Chancellor said the university has attracted over eight hundred and eighty eight million naira as National Research Fund sponsored by TETFund and that FUT Minna in consortium with eleven other International Institutions have won five million Euro in the European Commission Grant to execute EU_AU Partnership for Resilient Inclusive and Safe Food System for Everyone among others.

Prof Faruk Adamu Kuta added that a special Jumaaat prayers for the convocation will be performed this Friday at the Central Mosque of Bosso Gidan Kwano while an interdenominational Church services will be held on Sunday at the Chapel of Grace main campus.
