 U.S Finalizes $20,000 Visa Bond Policy Affecting Nigeria and 49 Other Nations The United States government has officially formalized its visa bond policy, making it a permanent measure that could require travelers from 50 designated countries, including Nigeria, to pay a refundable bond of up to $20,000 before receiving certain visas. First introduced as a pilot scheme in 2025, the policy targets applicants seeking B1 and B2 visas, which are designated for business and tourism. According to the U.S. Department of State, the initiative is designed to bolster compliance with local immigration laws and drastically reduce visa overstay rates. Supreme Court Affirms The Election Of Dapo Abiodun As Governor Of Ogun State

The Supreme Court has affirmed the March 18, 2023 election of Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress, as Governor of Ogun state. 

Justice Tijani Abubakar who read the lead judgment of the 5-man panel of the Supreme Court, held that the appeal was unmeritorious and deserved to be dismissed.

The apex court affirmed separate judgments of the lower courts which had dismissed Adebutu's petition for being grossly incompetent and held that Parties should bear their respective costs. 

The unanimous judgment was on the appeal by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and it's candidate in the March 18, governorship election, Ladi Adebutu.

Adebutu had challenged Abiodun’s re-election on the grounds that the Electoral Act, 2022 was not adhered to, citing corrupt practices and issue of non-qualification.

INEC had declared Abiodun winner of the governorship election after polling 276,298 votes to defeat his closest rival Adebutu, who polled 262,383 votes.
