 NDLEA secures forfeiture of N33.6 billion worth of opioids intercepted at Onne Port - Court order a death knell for the financial nerves of drug cartels, says Marwa  The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has secured another significant win in its ongoing offensive against drug cartels as the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt, granted an interim forfeiture order for 17 containers laden with illicit opioids Worth over N33.6 billion in street value. The containers, which were intercepted at the Port Harcourt Ports Complex in Onne, Rivers State, on 4h September; 14th August; 13th August; 29th July: 13th June; 30th May; 29th May; 28th May; 20th May; 19th May; 14th May and 29th April, all in 2025, contain a staggering haul of Nineteen Million Six Hundred Thousand (19,600,000) pills of Tramadol, Tafrodol, Tapentadol and Carisoprodol, as well as Two Million Four Hundred and Ninety Six Thousand Four Hundred (2,496,400) bottles of Codeine Syrup. MDCN inducts Over 400 foreign-trained doctors, dentists

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), has inducted 416 foreign-trained medical and dental graduates (403 doctors and 13 dentists) into the Nigerian medical profession, with a charge to uphold the ethics of the medical and dental profession.

The inductees were graduates who passed the written examination and other clinical exercises organized by MDCN to test their capacity and knowledge of medicine.

MDCN Registrar, Dr. Tajudeeen Sanusi, administered the necessary oaths to the doctors at an induction ceremony held in Abuja.

He informed the new doctors that the next step was posting to different healthcare facilities across the country for their one year mandatory housemanship which will, expectedly, afford them the opportunity to acquire more practical knowledge and experience required for smooth take off of their career

 Dr Sanusi therefore warned against unethical conducts detrimental to the image of Nigeria by dentists and medical professionals across the country.

Dr. Sanusi noted that the primary responsibility of medical practitioners was to save lives and urged the new inductees to conduct themselves professionally and always abide by the ethics of the profession.

While emphasizing the need for the newly inductees to be diligent and maintain integrity in the management of patients, Dr Sanusi admonished them to see their profession as a selfless service to humanity and not a money making venture as the council will not hesitate to sanctions any practitioner found wanting in the discharge of their professional duty.

Also the special Adviser to the president on health Matters, Mrs Salma Ibrahim Anas while congratulating new inductees of MDCN, and the management of the council for making the induction a reality urged them not to abandon the country for Quacks.

Over four hundred inductees have promised to practice the profession for public good while embracing rules and regulations and all other laws guiding the council.
