 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. NORTH CENTRAL GOVERNORS DONATE N100M TO VICTIMS OF PLATEAU ATTACK 


One hundred Million naira has been donated by Governors of the North Central states to Internally Displaced person's IDPs who are victims of the Christmas Eve attacks in Plateau State.

The Governors also promised to safeguard their states from being turned into a hub for bandits and criminals.

The Governors made the pledge while on a condolence visit to Plateau state Governor Caleb Mutfwang over the unfortunate attacks of some communities in the State on Christmas Eve.

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Leader of team and Governor of Nasarawa state, Engineer Abdullahi Sule said the Governors took the decision following the negative impression created about their states by the activities of terrorists, adding that they can no longer fold their hands and watch such acts.

Governors of Niger state Umaru Bago and that of Benue state, Rev. Father Hyacinth Alia who also spoke during the visit, stressed the importance of employing a non kinetic approach in dealing with similar incidences in addition to alleviating the plight of those displaced 
       
Responding, Governor Caleb Mutfwang emphasized the need for the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency, address the deplorable nature of some roads in the state which the criminals use in getting to their victims as well as makes it difficult for security personnel to promptly respond on time to distress calls
       
In a vote of thanks, the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jabob Buba stressed the need for the establishment of a North Central Development Commission to cater for the needs of states in the zone devastated by attacks and destruction of property.
