SENATE ADJOURNS EMERGENCY PLENARY ON STATE POLICE OVER REP’S DEATH. The Senate today suspended consideration of the highly anticipated State Police Bill and all other legislative business at its emergency plenary session to honour the memory of Hon. Yaya Tongo, a member of the House of Representatives, whose death cast a sombre mood over the National Assembly. President Bola Tinubu has approved a massive cost-cutting exercise across federal establishments, including the Presidency.

Briefing State House correspondents on the exercise, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, said the crux of the directive was to reduce cost on official trips.

According to the directive, security outfits within states will frontline the  protective details of the President, the Vice President, the First Lady and the Second Lady on local trips.

By the directive, only 4 members of staff are to accompany each Minister on international trips, and 2 in the case of heads of agencies.

In the case of the President on international trips, only 20 officials are allowed to accompany him, and 25 on local trips.

5 officials are allowed on the entourage of the Vice President and the First Lady on international trips.

On local trips, 15 officials are the limit to be on the entourage of the Vice President, while 10 officials will be accompanying the First Lady and the Second Lady.

"Henceforth, the President is insistent that the notion of government wastage, the notion of recurrent expenditure being in excess, the notion that government officials will be allowed to conduct their affairs in a way that is different from what we are asking of Nigerian citizens with respect to prudence and Cost Management, those days are over", the Special Adviser explained.

Chief Ngelale further explained that the President was insistent that the prudence of government officials must reflect the prudence and efficiency of Nigerians.
